Luxembourg Celebrates Its First-Ever Participation in the International Frame Running Cup

Luxembourg marked an important milestone this July with its first-ever participation in the International Frame Running Cup, held from 8 to 11 July in Bagsværd, Denmark. The Luxembourg Paralympic Committee (LPC) was represented by athlete Sandra Schwinninger, who delivered an impressive international debut in her new discipline and concluded the competition with three podium finishes.
 

Frame Running is a rapidly developing para-athletics discipline that enables athletes with impaired balance or mobility to compete using a three-wheeled running frame. Earlier this year, Sandra transitioned from Para Swimming to Para Athletics, joining the LPC’s national squad and beginning her preparation for international competition. The event in Denmark marked her first appearance on the international stage in this sport.

Competing in the T72 classification, Sandra took part in the 60 m, 100 m, 200 m and 400 m races. Her first event, the 100 m sprint, resulted in a strong fourth-place finish, narrowly missing the podium. The following day, she secured her first medal with a silver over 400 m. On the final day of competition, Sandra won two additional medals, securing silver over 60 m and bronze over 200 m. She concluded the event with a total of three medals, a remarkable achievement for her first international appearance in Frame Running.

This year’s International Frame Running Cup brought together athletes from 12 nations, combining competitive races with an international development camp aimed at strengthening exchange and expertise within the sport. Frame Running is gaining significant international momentum and will reach a historic milestone in 2028, when it will be included for the first time in the Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, with medals awarded over the 100 m distance for both women and men.
