Luxembourg’s participation in the European Film Festival in Stockholm
The Embassy of Luxembourg in Sweden participated in the 5th edition of the European Film Festival, which took place from November 27 to 30, 2025, at Zita Folkets Bio. This festival is co-organized by the European Commission and EUNIC Stockholm, with the participation of embassies and cultural institutes, and, for the first time, candidate countries.
This year's program featured a selection of recent and award-winning films from a record 20 countries! The 2025 edition of the festival celebrated the 30th anniversary of Sweden's accession to the EU. Our Embassy, in cooperation with the Luxembourg Film Fund, is proud to have presented the film "Marianengraben," an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jasmin Schreiber. Ever since Tim drowned in Trieste, Paula has lost the will to live . When she encounters Helmut, a widower who wants to drive the ashes of his late wife to South Tyrol, she finally sees a way out : go to Trieste and take her own life on Tim’s birthday . But during the journey, an unexpected friendship develops with Helmut – and lust for life flourishes again for both of them.
This is the first feature film by Eileen Byrne, a Luxembourgish director and screenwriter, who has already made a name for herself with her short film "Was bleibt", nominated for the Student Academy Awards and screened at festivals such as Camerimage and the Max Ophüls Prize.
